Trending topics in Nigeria 8/01/2017-14/01/2017

1.MMM Nigeria returns - Participants of the Ponzi scheme were all smiles and celebrating as the Ponzi scheme apparently started allowing participants to Get Help after they "froze" the scheme for about 1 month, although they promised to resume on the 14th of January but in a surprise move to kick start things, they actually started on the 13th of January 2017, probably to build confidence in people to provide help, although of course with a condition that those who are poorer will be paid first, siting that people were warned to only invest their spare money.

2.FLORA NWAPA- On her 86th posthumous birthday, late Nigerian novelist Flora Nwanzuruahu Nwapa is being celebrated by tech giant Google with a doodle. Doodles are made to celebrate anniversaries, holidays , life of famous people etc.
"Nwapa’s Efuru, published in 1966 was the first book published in English by an African woman, coming just 8 years after Chinua Achebe’s groundbreaking Things Fall Apart. She was also first female commissioner of the then East Central State" Guardian Nigerian.

3.Pretty Mike - The lagos club owner of club Uno was in the News again for attending another event with two ladies on a leash,  this didn't go down well with a lot of Nigerians online and commentators which felt it was degrading, later in the week we heard he was arrested by Lagos state Police command , for charges which we don't know yet, after which he released an apology and said he'll no longer continue this his campaign, although those in the know said he was made to sign and undertaking.

"The undertaking read in part: “I, Mike Eze Nwalie, A.K.A Pretty Mike, of 21A, Magodo GRA, Luma Street, do hereby undertake to stop whatever act of putting girls on a leash or any other degrading treatment to ladies and guys"

his apology went thus on Instagram.
"
"There has been a lot of controversy over two of my outings holding some females on a leash. I apologize to all the women and the good people of Lagos State, Nigeria and the rest of the world who feel dehumanized by this craft that meant well. I will use other platforms and format to continue to create the necessary awareness...#WomenRights #PeaceAmbassador"

4. Football - The African cup of nation (AFCON 2017) started on the 14th of January with the first game of Guinea vs Garbon ending in a 1-1 draw. Nigeria did not qualify for the Football fiesta, which will end on the 5th of February 2017.

EPL - Chelsea and Arsenal had big wins of 0-3 and 0-4 both teams won away from home, Chelsea still sits comfortably ontop the EPL table with 52 points from 21 games, although Chelsea's Diago Costa was left out of the game against Leicester after an outburst with the head coach and fitness coach.

5. Mr. Eazi - The Hollup singer that won the Next rated artiste award at the Headies, was in trouble over his statement ," “Nigeria Ghanaian music’s influence on Nigerian music cannot be over-emphasized.”  This of course was a hard pill to swallow for his Nigerian fans which felt the statement was inappropriate considering the rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria, although he has apologized on micro blogging website twitter.
"“Just got a call, my family in Imeko are doing family meeting to deport me to Ghana. Abeg my Naija people no vex.”" we all hope he'll make less unguided statements in the future.
