3. Football - FA cup, Arsenal managed a late win against Peterborough by a late goal from Giroud.
Bournemouth , Stoke, West Bromwich all premier league side, were knocked out of the FA cup by lower league sides.

                    *also in the week FC Barcelona was beaten by Atletico Bilbao  2-1 even though Atletico had a red card.


                   * Mikel Obi of Chelsea said goodbye to the squad after putting in about 10 years and winning several titles with the club, a move to Chinese side  after he was frustrated out of the squad, having not featured in any premier league game since the beginning of the season.


4. New Year Day - There were several events to mark the beginning of a new year, this 2017 which included a new year's day charity swim in Northern Ireland were they were raising money for (stillbirth and neonatal death charity).

5. GLO CAF award -The Confederation of African Football award was held in Abuja 2017, for footballing brilliance in the previous year, although no Nigerian was nominated for the African Footballer of the year (male) Nigeria won in other categories Asisat Oshoala won in the women's category, while Alex Iwobi of Arsenal won in the Youth category, the Footballer of the year was won by Riyad Mahrez of Algeria and Leicester City.
